Pidgeons shoot for fourth title

The Blackie’s Fighting Pidgeons, a 50-and-older slow-pitch softball

team will attempt to win their fourth straight Newport Beach

championship when they face the Foul Balls at 7:30 tonight at Bonita

Creek Park, near Jamboree Road.

The Pidgeons (8-1) play in the men’s C-1 division and are made up

of Costa Mesa and Newport Beach residents. The Pidgeons have been a

mainstay in the city’s recreational league for 30 years.

Seven original members are still on the team that includes Pat

Shanley, Bruce McClary, Steve Hansler, Tad Day, Rudy Burbank, pitcher

Ray Pion, Irv Dawson and Mike Gagnon.
