Douglas M. Dukes of Costa Mesa was named to the spring semester’s

Dean’s List at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y. He

majored in Materials Engineering ... Orange Coast College student

Dixie McCorkindale of San Bernardino was awarded a $1,000 Coca-Cola

scholarship. McCorkindale, a mother of four and grandmother of 13,

maintained a 3.5 grade point average and was named the college’s

“Female Student of the Year” in May ... Orange Coast College student

and Costa Mesa resident Danton Noriega-Goodwin won a Hispanic

Education Endowment Fund scholarship, one of 100 such scholarships

given nationally. Noriega-Goodwin maintained a 4.0 grade point

average during the 2003-04 school year and was named to the college’s

President’s Honors List the past two semesters ... Sarah Moyer of

Newport Beach earned Dean’s List honors for her spring semester at

George Washington University in Washington, D.C. ... McCarthy

Building Companies, Inc., hired Brent Newby as preconstruction

director and James Sirls as estimator. Both men will provide

preconstruction services for the company’s Newport Beach-based

Southern California division.
