Ocean View Little League will hold a signup session for its winter

ball season Saturday at the league’s playing fields at Murdy Park.

The signup session will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Murdy Park is located near the corner of Goldenwest Street and

Warner Avenue.

Wild Woman Waterday hits the Pier this weekend

Surf Academy will present its sixth annual Wild Woman Waterday

this weekend at the Huntington Beach Pier.

The two-day, multi-water-sport ocean event is open to women of all

ages and skill levels.

The Aug. 14-15 event is the final stop on the 2004 League of Women

Surfers five-event surf series.

The event will be composed of a surf competition, ocean events,

surf lessons and, for the first time, a Surf Star Clinic, which gives

surfers the chance to enhance their skills in the water.

After the session, all participants will be able to watch their

performances on DVD and each participant gets to keep their

personalized DVD.

“Wild Woman Waterday is a day of freedom and celebration for all

female athletes,” said Mary Sutterholm, founder of Surf Academy. “We

are so excited to host this year’s event at the Huntington Beach

Pier, one of the world’s great surf spots.”

Local golf tournament tees off on Aug. 23

The Huntington Beach Chamber of Commerce will present its 28th

annual golf tournament Monday, Aug. 23, at SeaCliff Country Club.

Registration will be taken at 9 a.m., followed by an 11 a.m.

shotgun start.

The player package includes greens fees, a cart, a Fidra golf

shirt, lunch and dinner, refreshments, flight prizes, Mulligans and

Putting, Longest and Most Accurate Drive contests.

Also available is a raffle and a special Par 3 Close to the Pin

contest.

The cost is $940 per foursome.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Huntington Beach

High School golf teams.

Local tennis tournament taking registration

The 43rd annual Huntington Beach Open Tennis Tournament is taking

registration for its two-weekend event.

The tournament, one of the county’s oldest, will be played the

weekend of Aug. 21-22 and Aug. 28-29.

Play will be featured in men’s and women’s singles and doubles,

mixed doubles, open and open senior men and 3.5 through 5.0

divisions.

Golden West Water Polo Club session continues

Golden West Water Polo Club is continuing its summer camp session

through Aug. 26.

The cost is $75 per player and the club team is open to youngsters

grades two through eight.

Practice times and days through Aug. 26 are 5:45 to 7:30 p.m.,

each Tuesday and Thursday, at the Golden West College pool.

Ladies golf club membership drive set

The Mile Square Swingers are holding an open golf club membership

drive and invite women of Huntington Beach interested in playing golf

to join the club.

The membership drive is scheduled for Aug. 19.

Starting tee times will begin at 7:30 a.m. through 9:30 a.m.

Green fees are $42 with cart or $30 to walk.
