Police seek three carjack suspects

Three men allegedly carjacked a man on the Balboa Peninsula early

Tuesday morning, Police said.

A 30-year-old Santa Ana man reported to police that a man armed

with a knife told him to get out of his SUV and give him the keys,

police said. The incident took place at about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday at

Ocean Front West and 21st Street, Newport Beach Police Sgt. Steve

Shulman said.

The man complied, and the man armed with the knife and two other

men got into the green 2002 Chevrolet Blazer and sped away, Shulman

said. The SUV owner suffered a small scratch from the knife but did

not require treatment for his injury.

Police believe the same group of men was involved in an attempted

carjacking in the same area only minutes before.

The owner of a white 1996 Toyota 4Runner told police that as he

sat in his car, a man -- who he said he later saw get into the Blazer

-- asked him for a ride home, police said. The 4Runner’s owner

refused but offered to call a cab for the man, Shulman said.

Pair arrested after alleged robbery

Costa Mesa Police arrested two Fresno residents Sunday morning on

suspicion of robbing a woman while she waited for a bus, police said.

The woman was sitting at a bench at about 11:30 p.m. Monday in the

2100 block of Harbor Boulevard, Sgt. Bob Ciszek said. A car stopped

in front of her, and a woman got out to ask directions, he said.

While the woman sitting on the bench gave directions, the other

woman grabbed her purse and, after a struggle, took it and jumped

back in the car, Ciszek said.

The purse’s owner contacted police with a description of the car,

which they stopped an hour later on the San Diego Freeway in

Huntington Beach. Police arrested 47-year-old Ronda Jean Gray and

44-year-old Guy Sorensen, both of Fresno, Ciszek said.

Both are in custody on $50,000 bail.

Two-car collision causes traffic tie-up

A two-car collision at the corner of Jamboree Road and Pacific

Coast Highway Wednesday hindered traffic for more than an hour, while

Newport Beach Police sorted out the mess.

The accident, which left a green Cadillac without a driver’s-side

door and a tan Lexus with a mashed-in driver’s-side front fender, was

caused by one of the drivers running a red light -- though police

were uncertain as to which driver, Officer Dave Darling said. Darling

said the driver who ran the red light would not be identified until

the department found a good witness to the event.

The woman driving the Cadillac was transported to Hoag Hospital

for minor injuries, police said. The woman driving the Lexus was

released at the scene without injury.
