Feeling charitable about shopping

“Summer Nights at the Cove,” a Thursday event that celebrates summer,

starts tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at Crystal Cove Promenade. “Summer

Nights at the Cove” features live music, children’s entertainment and

food samplings. Also, 10% of each evening’s sales will benefit a

designated charity.

Tonight, a portion of sales goes toward the Queen of Hearts

Foundation, which raises money for research and education for ovarian

cancer. On Aug. 19, Orangewood Children’s Foundation will benefit

from the evening’s sales. On Aug. 26, the Glass Slipper Guild of

Children’s Hospital of Orange County will receive the proceeds.

Also, three new tenants open at Crystal Cove Promenade this month,

including Trio, a lifestyle boutique for women and children offering

fashions from the hottest designers; Sage on the Coast, offering

creative American cuisine; and Andavi Salon & Skin Therapy, a salon

offering hair care as well as treatment rooms for skin and beauty

treatments. Crystal Cove Promenade is at East Coast Highway and

Crystal Heights Drive in Newport Beach. The center also has a Trader

Joe’s, Williams-Sonoma, Banana Republic, The Gap, Ann Taylor Loft and

16 other stores and cafes.

WALK ON THE SALE SIDE

A summer sidewalk sale happens today through Saturday at Newport

North Shopping Center. Find great discounts on merchandise from

various stores and cafes. Participating merchants include A Fine

Affair, Couture New York, Master Tailoring, Petco, Royal Jewelers,

Labels Boutique, Tully’s Coffee and Champagnes Market. Newport North

Shopping Center is at MacArthur Boulevard and Bison in Newport Beach.

GIVING UNTIL IT HELPS

On Saturday, Madison Avenue and Ambrosia Home at the Bluffs

shopping center will team up to support a great cause. Women Helping

Women will receive 15% of sales from the two stores, and from 10 a.m.

to 3 p.m., the stores will accept gently worn career wear for the

charity. Also, customers who donate five business suits to the

clothing drive will receive 10% off a purchase made that day. Madison

Avenue offers an international selection of upscale women’s apparel

and accessories, presenting more than 150 designer lines, ranging

from casual sportswear and tailored business wear to exquisite pieces

for cocktail, formal and gala events. Madison Avenue also has

personal shoppers to prepare you for any event. And you can select

Ambrosia Home, a home furnishings and accessories showroom, also

offers interior design services. Designers provide expert advice and

give personal attention to help customers develop their style.

FEEDING THE BLUES

South Coast Plaza will host the annual al fresco fundraiser, “Hot

Blues on a Cool Summer Night,” for the Center Stage Chapter of the

Guilds of the Orange County Performing Arts Center from 5 to 9 p.m.

Aug. 19. Steve Copeland & Raging Sun provides entertainment, and

restaurants offering foods include Antonello Ristorante, Bluewater

Grill, Bodega Chocolates, The Clubhouse, Godiva Chocolatier,

Maggiano’s Little Italy, Morton’s of Chicago, Nello Cucina, Quattro

Caffe, Royal Khyber Fine Indian Cuisine and Starbucks. Proceeds go to

the Orange County Performing Arts Center and its education and

JUST RETURNED, MUST SELL

On Saturday, Sarah Whitcomb Antiques on Antique Row starts its

summer sale, which runs through the end of the month. New home

furnishings have just arrived from a recent buying trip, and the

South Coast Plaza just opened the first nikewomen store. The

state-of-the-art store encompasses 6,000 square feet, featuring the

latest in Nike products designed especially for women. The

interactive store allows customers to give feedback on the style,

A VOTE FOR FASHION

A/X Armani Exchange and Marie Claire magazine have teamed up to

encourage voter registration among young women. A limited edition

T-shirt will be sold at A/X Armani Exchange at South Coast Plaza for

$20. Proceeds from the shirt will go to Step Up Women’s Network, a

charity that strengthens community resources for women and girls.
