Paul G. Thiene

Paul G. Thiene died July 19 of melanoma.

Mr. Thiene was born in Pasadena in 1919 to well-known landscape

architect of the 1920s Paul G. Thiene and Lola Thiene.

Mr. Thiene attended the California Institute of Technology of

Pasadena, earning a doctorate in physics.

He settled in Laguna Beach while he worked at Philco-Ford’s office

of Research and Development in Newport Beach. When he retired in

1988, he moved to Carmel and then to the Sea Ranch in Sonoma in 1999.

Mr. Thiene is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sonja; three

daughters, Pamela Thiene of Santa Barbara, Kristin Thiene of Half

Moon Bay and Maya Redwitz of Laguna Beach; sons-in-law John Tesman,

Curt Johnson and Tom Redwitz; and two grandchildren Garret Tesman and

Natalie Redwitz.
