FOA celebrates life on the coast

The Festival of Arts is celebrating surfing and living on the

California Coast with “Surf’s Up,” from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. The

event will highlight surfboards, beachwear and popular surfing tunes.

“Surfs Up” celebrates the history of surfing, as well as the

lifestyle of Southern California coastal residents. Tide pool and

marine life programs, along with a hands-on exhibit of live coastal

creatures, will be displayed.

Attendees will also view a vintage collection of surfboards from

the Surfing Heritage Foundation, watch a beachwear fashion show and

enjoy reviewing a collection of vintage Hawaiian shirts, all to live

surf music. Surf-related films will be shown in the Forum Theatre

until 4 p.m.

Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for seniors and students. Laguna

residents get in free every day. The Festival of Arts is at 650

Music in the Park to be held Sunday

Sunday is the fifth concert of the nine-week season of Music in

the Park.

Latin-rock music by Savor will be featured Sunday, and reggae by

Lion Heart will be featured Aug. 22.

The concerts are free and run from 5 to 7 p.m. Bring blankets,

beverages and a picnic basket. The concerts are at Bluebird Park at

the corner of Bluebird Drive and Cress Street. No pets are allowed.

Museum seeking artists and designers

Laguna Art Museum is seeking Orange County artists and designers

working in all media for “The OsCene in Contemporary Art and

Culture,” exhibit that will show Nov. 7 through February.

It will be a survey exhibition of Orange County artists working in

all media. Work produced within the last two years is sought.

Studio visits will be scheduled from August to early October. Send

‘Catechism’ extended for ninth time

As a result of continued popular demand, the Laguna Playhouse will

extend its run of “Late Nite Catechism” for a ninth time, continuing

through Oct. 21.

College exhibit to feature alumni work

Laguna College of Art and Design is launching its academic year

with an exhibition of original artwork by artists and designers who

received their bachelor’s degrees from the college. The annual

“Juried Alumni Exhibition,” is open, and will run through Sept. 11.

Alumni of Laguna College were asked to submit work, which was then

juried collectively.

The exhibit reflects the major fields of art and design taught at

the college, including drawing and painting, illustration, graphic

design, animation and sculpture.

The exhibit is free and open to the public. Laguna College is at
