Another third for Towersey

Newport Beach resident Marianne Towersey shot an even-par 72 on

Pinehurst’s Course No. 5 Thursday to finish in a three-way tie for

third following the final round of the 47th North and South Senior

Women’s Championship at Pinehurst, N.C.

Towersey (77-75-72 -- 224), who finished third in last year’s

tournament, completed the three-day tournament at 8-over, joining

Chris Epperly from Lady Lake, Fla., (75-75-77 -- 224) and Karen

Ferree from Hilton Head, S.C.

Nancy Smith from North Port, Fla., (65-70-70 -- 209) claimed the

championship, contested on three different courses all three days.

Newport Beach’s Madelaine Campbell (83-81-77 -- 241) tied for 17th with Eleanor Walker (78-86-77 -- 241) from Greensboro, N.C.
