* Steve Rhorer (senior champion) -- Shot a 6-under-par 282 to win

senior masters, a tournament that attracts international players 55

and older, by one stroke in April. Teamed with Pete Daley, a

four-time Mesa Verde men’s champion, to claim the Southern California

Golf Association’s Four-Ball Match Play championship following a 4

and 3 victory over Steven Bogan of Placentia and Bob Clark of

Murrieta Thursday at the SCGA Golf Course in Murrieta.

* Dave Irwin (men’s champion) -- Joined Rhorer and Daley as the

only golfers in Mesa Verde’s 45-year history to hold the senior and

men’s championships at the same time when he won the men’s

championship last August. Makes his Jones Cup debut.

* Akemi Khaiat (ladies champion) -- Born in Tokyo, she has claimed

the last three Mesa Verde Country Club women’s titles and was a

co-captain on the Japanese national team in 1998 when it competed in

the World Amateur championship in Santiago, Chile. Finished second by

two strokes to Marianne Towersey in last year’s Tea Cup Classic.

* Tom Sargent (head pro) -- Director for PGA sections in Southern

and Northern California, along with Hawaii. Named the 1997 PGA

National Golf Professional of the Year. Taught more than 30 junior

All-Americans.
