Entrepreneurs, investors to meet at Pelican Hill

The Orange County/Los Angeles and San Diego chapters of Forum for

Women Entrepreneurs will hold its third annual Progressive Venture

Summit on Oct. 5 and 6 at Pelican Hill Golf Club in Newport Beach.

The event, expected to attract high-powered executives, venture

capitalists, investors and other professionals, will feature an

entrepreneurs’ venture boot camp, two networking receptions, a

capital providers’ luncheon and the capstone, a progressive venture

summit dinner.

Entrepreneurs will progress through dinner courses of salad,

entree, dessert and coffee, for a total of three table exchanges,

offering each participating entrepreneur the opportunity to present

his or her pitch to a variety of experts in their particular fields.

Seated at each table will be two capital providers, who are

matched to the entrepreneur’s targeted industry; a table moderator; a

sponsoring professional service provider for that table; and four

high-growth entrepreneurs.

Maintenance will mean water-content changes

The Irvine Ranch Water District announced it will temporarily

switch the disinfectant it uses in water from chloramines -- a

combination of chlorine and ammonia -- to chlorine during system

maintenance beginning the week of Aug. 23 and lasting through early

October.

Customers might notice a slight change in the taste or odor of

their water from the Irvine Ranch district during this period, but it

is normal and poses no health risk, a statement from the water

district said.

The chlorine taste and smell can be minimized by keeping an open

pitcher of water in the refrigerator for drinking, as the chlorine

naturally dissipates from the water as it sits.

Because of the change, kidney dialysis patients may check with

their healthcare providers to ensure that dialysis equipment is

properly tested before use, and fish owners can check with their

pet-supply store for information on the special water treatment that

is best for their fish. For information on the change, call the water

Indian tribe leader to speak at nature center

The Environmental Nature Center will feature “Understanding the

Acjacheman” with Damien Shilo on Sept. 10 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Shilo, chairman of the Juaneno Band of Mission Indians and

Acjacheman Nation Tribal Council, will talk about Acjacheman people

of Orange County.

Shilo will tell the story of his people, show artifacts and share

lore from pre-Colombian Orange County at the center’s amphitheater.

The fee is $2 per person.
