South Coast Breakers win soccer tournament

The South Coast Breakers under-13 boys’ soccer team rolled past three

opponents to win the Capistrano Cup in tournament play at San Juan

Capistrano.

The Breakers, a newly formed club team out of the South Coast

Soccer Club and composed of local players, outscored their opponents

9-1.

They won their first game by forfeit before recording a 2-1

victory over the South County Storm of Laguna Hills. A 5-0 shutout of

the Pacific Soccer Club South Pirates of Lake Forest propelled the

Breakers into the tournament final against Orange Junior Soccer Club

Premier.

Breakers goalkeeper Jimmy Madden withstood a barrage of shot

attempts by Premier early in the championship match, which allowed

the Breakers the opportunity to take control of the match midway

through the first half. The Breakers took a 1-0 halftime lead when

Casey Harden scored off Morgan Duffy’s assist.

Defense dominated the second half of play, where the outstanding

play of sweeper Garrett Moore helped keep Premier off the scoreboard.

Harden’s goal stood up as the Breakers claimed the title with a 1-0

triumph.

The Capistrano Cup was the third tournament the Breakers have

competed in this year.

The South Coast Breakers boys under-13 team is composed of

goalkeepers Madden and John Dunn; defensemen Moore, Bobby Ellis, Evan

Kawahara and Aaron Ochoa; midfielders Harden, Collin Shaffer, Faris

Barudi and Conner Richard; and offensive players Duffy, Tyler

Bigenho, John Dunn and Dylan Ybarra and Chris Gillen and Schuyler

Zimmerman.

The Breakers are coached by Juan Ochoa, Glen Ellis and Nick

Lazarescu.
