Lagunans can get ‘Plaid’ at a discount

The Laguna Beach Playhouse is selling tickets for “Forever Plaid”

at a two-for-one rate to Laguna residents.

The musical is a story of four singers in the 1950s who are killed

in a car accident and are revived with the chance to perform their

show. Songs include “Sixteen Tons,” “Heart and Soul” and “Love is a

Many Splendored Thing.”

The show will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays

and at 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Tickets to the Friday evening

show will cost $52, admission to the Saturday evening show will cost

$54. The price to attend all other shows will be $45. Lagunans must

show proof of residency to receive the discount, which is not

available on Saturday evenings. The last day of the show is Aug. 29.

Russian impressionism will stay a little longer

The J. Kamin Fine Art gallery has extended its show of 20th

century Russian impressionism to Sept. 15.

The gallery describes the Soviet-era art being shown as having a

more masculine than French impressionism, with an appeal to the mass

audience in the Soviet Union. The style reached its peak in the 1950s

and 1960s, before a more hard-edged aesthetic became popular. The

LAM to host talk on exhibit

Artist and co-curator Meg Crantson will give a gallery talk on the

development and organization of the “100 Artists See God” show.

She will also discuss specific works of art. The 11 a.m. event
