Real estate teams play to support United Way

Local real estate teams will battle it out at Newport Dunes on

Sept. 10 in various sports events in an effort to raise money for the

Orange County United Way.

Thirty-two teams will compete in volleyball, basketball, a swim

relay and a kayak-run relay to support Success by 6, a nationwide

United Way initiative to promote healthy development and school

readiness for children from birth to age 6.

The event, to be organized by United Way and Buchanan Street

Partners, is expected to raise $250,000 for the program.

The competition will be followed by live music, a beach party

barbecue, an awards ceremony and a check presentation to United Way.

Registration begins at noon on Sept. 10, and the competition will

start at 12:30 p.m. For more information, visit

School board members to review leases tonight

The Newport-Mesa Unified School District board will resume its

bimonthly meeting schedule tonight, when it will prepare for the

coming school year.

Preparations will include looking at all its lease agreements --

both the property it rents out to programs, such as the Lindburgh

school site, and the property it rents, such as a building at the

Orange County Fairgrounds.

Board members will also receive an update on Measure A school bond

construction. And they receive a quarterly investment report, a

strategic plan development update and set a date for a study session

and public hearing for the final budget.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. after a closed-session meeting at

the District Education Center, 2985-A Bear St. in Costa Mesa.
