Taking a sneak peek at kindergarten

Incoming kindergarteners at Newport Heights Elementary School got

their first look at their classrooms, teachers, new principal and new

playground equipment last week.

The students played on the monkey bars, slides and in an

elaborate, wooden playhouse paid for by the school’s foundation and

the Newport-Mesa Unified School District. New Principal Kurt Suhr,

formerly with Rea Elementary, was on hand to see his new students.

* A Newport-Mesa Unified School district trustee is accusing some

of his colleagues of possibly violating board policy and the state’s

open-meeting law.

Trustee Tom Egan read a written statement at the end of Tuesday

night’s school board meeting, about an e-mailed apology sent by

Trustee Martha Fluor to a state official. Egan said the e-mail

apparently violates board policies by “falsely claiming to speak for

the board,” but Fluor said she did nothing wrong by sending the

apology.
