In its final tune-up before league play, Gold Coast Xtreme, a local

girls’ under-12 Silver Level club soccer team won the Orange County

Kickoff Tournament in Irvine.

Combining a steady offense with a stingy defense, the Xtreme

outscored their opponents 13-2 in four matches.

Playing at Irvine Valley College, the Xtreme defeated Crown City

United 2-0, the Irvine Lazers 5-1 and the Wolves 5-0. In the

tournament final, they defeated Cypress F.C. Elite 2-1 in a shootout.

Forward Sarah Wilkinson led the Xtreme in scoring with four goals

and midfielder Devon Shinn finished with three goals. One of Shinn’s

goals came late in the championship match against Cypress, which

allowed the Xtreme to earn a 1-1 tie.

In a tie-breaking shootout to decide the tournament champion,

Nicole Camarillo and Halle Bissin each scored to lift the Xtreme to

the championship. It was the only goals of the tournament for both

players.

Contributing outstanding work at midfield were Emily Walling,

Hanna Mais and Shannon Wright.

Camarillo, Katherine Zeltner, Natalie Ortiz and Paige Grigus

anchored the Xtreme’s tough defense and Bissin and Marquette shared

goalkeeping duties.
