LEGGING IT OUT

Wolford Boutique specializes in fabulous hosiery and bodywear.

Wolford’s factory in Austria produces bold designs and graphics on

hosiery and is a leader in innovative fabrics. For fall, Wolford

offers linear patterns and graphic looks that go well with fall

fashions, inspired by looks from the ‘20s, ‘60s and ‘80s. Some

beautiful pieces are named after famous operas. There’s Rigoletto,

made of lace and tulle; Turandot in opaque/transparent fabric with a

linear pattern; Electra, with a sophisticated opaque design on a

transparent background; Aida has a gathered effect; and Scala and

Tosca present florals on lace.

Wolford also supports organizations dedicated to fighting breast

cancer. In mid-September, black tights, accentuated with a pink seam

and ribbon, will go on sale. A portion of the proceeds from the

tights will go toward breast cancer research. Wolford also designs

flattering bodywear, lingerie and swimwear collections.

Collaborations with top designers including Vivienne Westwood and

Karl Lagerfeld add to Wolford’s appeal. Open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday

ALL ABOUT THE LADIES

Nikewomen at Fashion Island specializes in active lifestyle

apparel and shoes. Since Niketown’s decor and ambience comes across

as loud and masculine, the design at nikewomen was meant to attract

women.

“I got used to hearing people describe us as brutal,” said John

Hoke, the designer behind many Niketowns. “Women weren’t comfortable

in our stores, so I figured out where they would be comfortable --

most likely their own homes. The store has more of a residential

feel. I wanted it to have furnishings, not fixtures. Above all, I

didn’t want it to be girlie.”

Fashion Island’s nikewomen fits Hoke’s intention. Dark wood floors

are accented by light blue and white colors. Merchandise is displayed

on tables or wooden shelves with Jonathan Adler pottery and white

orchids. It carries the latest Nike products designed for women. The

interactive store allows customers to give feedback on the style,

design and performance of the products. (949) 720-7020.
