Anteaters sweep past Northeastern

UC Irvine senior outside hitter Kelly Wing hammered a match-high 20

kills and senior setter Ashlie Hain amassed 52 assists as the

Anteaters earned a 30-18, 30-22, 33-31 victory over Northeastern

Friday night in the UC Irvine/Nike tournament at Crawford Court.

Wing, a returning third-team All-American, hit .405 for the match

and also contributed 14 digs. For good measure, the 5-foot-11 Wing

chipped in three ace serves.

Junior libero Keegan Featherstone collected a team-high 17 digs

for the Anteaters, who improved to 2-0.

Senior middle blocker Sami Cash and sophomore middle blocker

Trisha White each added nine kills for the winners, while Amanda

Vazquez, a junior middle blocker, contributed eight kills to the

victory.

Whitney Turner had 13 kills for Northeastern.

* In other college volleyball action Friday: Vanguard University

posted a 30-19, 30-18, 30-21 sweep of Daemen University from New York

to earn a split Friday in the first day of the Concordia tournament

at Vanguard.

Sophomore Kelli Whittaker and senior Sonrisa Peace led the Lions

with nine kills apiece and libero Sevryn Demos had a team-high 20

digs in the evening victory for Vanguard.

The Lions were defeated, 30-21, 26-30, 24-30, 30-24, 15-12, by

Carroll College of Montana in Friday’s opening match.

Peace had 14 kills, while teammates Keri DeHaas and Kim Wynn added

10 each for the Lions.

Vanguard (4-2) continues tournament play today at Concordia

University in Irvine.
