SATURDAY

LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS

The Laguna Beach unit of the League of Women Voters will discuss

several topics of local interest at their first post-summer meeting.

The group plans to hold talks on the status of the Act V parcel, the

Laguna Beach High School Student Government Workshop and plans for

the Laguna Beach Election Festival. The meeting will begin at 9:15

a.m. in suite 202 in the meeting room at South County Bank, 540 S.

RESTORATION DAYS

Laguna Greenbelt Restoration Days is looking for people to join

park volunteers for a morning of habitat restoration in Laguna Coast

Wilderness Park. Laguna Greenbelt, Inc. has planned a series of

restoration days on the third Saturday of each month through June

2004. It will be from 8 to 11 a.m., and volunteers will help remove

nonnative plants. Meet at the Interpretive Center and parking will be

provided in the gravel parking area just south of the El Toro Road

and Laguna Canyon Road junction. Bring gloves, hat, sunscreen, shovel

and pruners (if you have them) and sturdy shoes and water. All

volunteers receive a free “Keep It Wild” T-shirt. Information: (949)

WEEKEND HIKES

Laguna Coast Wilderness Park offers hiking, mountain biking and

equestrian riding on designated trails at the Willow Canyon Staging

Area, 20101 Laguna Canyon Road, and hiking on designated trails at

the Dilley Preserve on Laguna Canyon Road every Saturday and Sunday.

CONNECT SPIRITUALLY

Intuitive counselor George Shaver provides clients with insights

The Laguna Beach Peace Vigil will meet every Saturday from 11 a.m.

SUNDAY

BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB OPEN HOUSE

The Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach will host a grand opening

celebration to showcase new programs that will start at the club this

fall. Featured attractions will include the JazzMasters Workshop,

where people can jam with professional musicians, a demonstration by

members of the National Society of Cartoonists, workshops conducted

by Laguna Outreach Community Arts, a karate demonstration,

performances by the Gallimaufry Performing Arts youth troupe,

acrobatics and health screenings.

The event will be from noon to 4 p.m. Admission will be free.

ADULT BASKETBALL

The public is invited to play ball at Laguna Beach High School.

Full-court pick-up games are played in the school’s gym from 9 a.m.

to noon Sundays. Many former high school and college players

participate. The games are sponsored by the city’s recreation

department. Cost is $2 at the door.

MUSIC TOGETHER

South Coast Music Together is hosting classes at two community

locations -- Lang Park at 21540 Wesley Drive and the Laguna Beach

City Hall Recreation Building at 515 Forest Ave. The Music Together

approach develops every child’s natural musical ability through

experience rather than theory. Classes are taught by professional

BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUP

St. Mary’s Episcopal Church will welcome anyone dealing with grief

BIBLE STUDY

The semester for Word Study Laguna Beach, a community

nondenominational, nonexclusive Bible study, will begin at noon at

the Calvary Evangelical Free Church. Word Study Laguna Beach is an

independent ministry of Word Study International and meets weekly

from noon to 1 p.m. in the church at 468 Legion St. All are welcome

to participate in the short lesson, small groups, praying and

WEIGHT-LOSS SURGERY LECTURE

A free lecture on bariatric surgery, a weight loss treatment

option for people 80 or more pounds overweight, will be presented by

two specialists in the field of laparascopic bariatric surgery, Brian

Quebbemann, and Ramsey Dallal. The lecture will be from 6:30 to 8

EVENING SERVICES

AT ST. PAUL’S

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at 1190 Morningside Drive will be

holding midweek services at 7 p.m. Wednesdays. Pastor Charles Mallie

will serve as liturgist. The primary focus of each service will a be

a verse-by-verse exposition of Scripture preached by Rod Rosenbladt

in a format like that used by Chuck Smith, John MacArthur, and J.

Vernon McGee. The program addresses major theological issues. St.

Paul’s offers Sunday morning Bible study at 9 a.m. and a worship

BODY IMAGE LECTURE

Guest speakers Sunny Steinmeyer and Anne Lee will discuss how a

negative body image can impact happiness and health. They will also

CHEESE AND WINE TASTING

Laguna Culinary Arts holds a cheese and wine tasting every second

and third Thursday of the month anytime between 5:30 to 7 p.m. The

together. The classes will take place at the Gourmet Shop and Cafe at
