With $57.1 million spent, the modernization of Laguna Beach

schools is complete.

The project was funded through local and state bonds, the city and

the California Department of Parks and Recreation.

and within budget.

School improvements at El Morro Elementary School began in Fall

2000 and included work on classrooms, the addition of a two-level

classroom building that will include a library/media center and an

administration building. The school also got a new kindergarten play

area and an expansion of the athletic fields. The work was completed

in August, 2003.

Top of the World Elementary classrooms were also updated and the

school’s fire and life safety systems were replaced. The school also

received a classroom building, an addition to the kindergarten

building and playground improvements. The work there was completed in

August.

Thurston Middle School had classrooms remodeled and got a new

performing arts center and gym. The work also included improvements

to the library and science labs. Work was completed there in August.

Work at the high school was also completed in August and included

a 1,200-square-foot dance studio, upgrades to classrooms, science

labs, the drama and band room and a 467-seat theater. Electrical

Baseball field renovations are expected to be finished in October.
