Edison still third in CIF poll
The Edison High Chargers, now 2-0, continued to hold onto the No.
3 slot in this week’s CIF-Southern Section Division I football poll.
The Chargers, coming off a 28-13 win over San Clemente, trail No.
1 ranked Long Beach Poly and No. 2 Loyola.
Edison entered the season ranked third behind Poly and Loyola.
Vikings, Oilers grace water polo poll
The boys’ water polo teams at Marina and Huntington Beach were
ranked among the top 10 in the first CIF-Southern Section Division II
poll of the year.
Marina was the highest-ranked local team, coming in at No. 4.
Huntington Beach, meanwhile, held down the No. 7 spot.
In addition to the Vikings and Oilers, the Sunset League was well
represented in the poll as Los Alamitos entered the 2004 season
ranked No. 1 and Esperanza was a spot ahead of Huntington Beach at
No. 6.
The girls’ volleyball Division II-AA poll featured a pair of local
schools, as Edison was ranked third and Huntington Beach was No. 4.
In the Division II boys’ cross country ranking, Edison came in at
No. 8.
Fall water polo registration continues
Golden West Water Polo Club, which began its fall season this
week, is still accepting new registration for all boys and girls ages
seven to 14.
The season will run through Nov. 21.
The club’s 18-and-under team recently won the 2004 Junior Olympic
Championship and it’s 20-and-under squad was runner-up at the
national championships.
Joining the Golden West staff this fall is 2000 and 2004 women’s
water polo Olympians, Robin Beauregard, a graduate of Marina High,
and Heather Moody.
