When Laguna Beach High hosts Ocean View High tonight in a 7 p.m.

nonleague football game, the school will pay tribute to its first 70

years on the gridiron.

The celebration of 70 years of Laguna Beach High football will

include the honoring of all school alumni football players during

game-time ceremonies.

The action on the playing field will find Laguna (1-1) trying to

win its second game of the season against an 0-1 Ocean View team.

The Breakers are coming off an impressive 38-12 home win over La

Quinta.

Defense, special teams and a strong running game keyed Laguna’s

win.

“We played pretty well,” Coach Jimmy Nolan said. “I saw some good

things out there, and this team showed improvement from the Palos

Verdes game.”

Laguna had dropped its season opener to Palos Verdes, 14-7, on

Sept. 3.

The Breakers never trailed in the game and led, 18-0, after one

quarter before stretching the lead to an insurmountable 38-0 cushion

at the half.

Laguna’s defense allowed the Aztecs a little more than 100 yards

of total offense.

Quarterback Talan Torriero rushed for three touchdowns, Tommy

Cogburn scored on a 36-yard punt return and closed out Laguna’s

scoring with a 47-yard burst in the final minute of the first half,

and running back Greg Arellano rushed for another score.

Ocean View dropped its season opener last Friday to visiting

Santiago, 48-21. The Seahawks gave up big plays in the loss, as the

Cavaliers scored on a pair of kickoff returns and on four runs of 24

yards or more.

Ocean View quarterback Aaron Valenzuela rushed for 105 yards on 11

carries and threw for 64 more to lead the Seahawks.

The teams did not meet last year.
