Gregory Manchess exhibit opens

Laguna College of Art and Design is now showing “A Passion For

Paint -- Gallery and Illustration work of Gregory Manchess

Exhibition.” This free art exhibition features Manchess’ original

oils.

“A Passion For Paint” opened Thursday and runs through Oct. 9 at

the gallery on the campus of Laguna College of Art and Design, 2222

Laguna Canyon Road. The public is welcome, and parking is free. For

More Music in the Park with Cloud 9

Sunday is the last concert of the “Music in the Park” nine-week

summer concert series, featuring Cloud 9.

This free concert is at Riddle Field at the corner of High Drive

and Hillcrest Drive. Bring blankets, beverages and a picnic basket.

It will be held at a different time than previous concerts, from 4 to

Materials needed for news mosaic

The Laguna Beach Arts Commission selected a mural design by Laguna

artist Gerard Basil Stripling for installation at Lang Park Community

Center.

The five mosaic murals, titled “Mementos,” will be installed at

the outdoor courtyard. Residents are invited to help install the

artwork in addition to contributing small memento items that may be

included within the murals. Donated items may or may not be selected

by the artist for inclusion in the project.

The community can donate items from Monday through Sept. 29. Items

must be appropriate in subject matter, be durable and no larger that

12 inches in length and 2 inches in thickness. Items may be delivered

Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to the Recreation and

Cultural Arts Department, 515 Forest Ave.

The mural installation will be held on Nov. 6, 7, 12, 13 and 14.

Pacific Symphony concert coming

As part of its “Symphony in the Cities” community concert

initiative, Orange County’s Pacific Symphony will present a concert

at The Festival of Arts grounds Saturday. Picnicking and children’s

musical activities begin at 5 p.m., followed by the concert at 7 p.m.

Musical selections will include “Sea Songs” by Vaughn Williams,

Rodrigo’s “Concierto de Aranjuez” for guitar and orchestra, “Walton’s

Facade” narrated by Laguna resident Ken Jillson and “God Bless

America.”

The event will also feature a “musical playground” for children,

which includes instrument making, face painting, meet the musicians,

a drumming clinic, musical games and a conducting clinic presented by

Pacific Symphony Music Director and Laguna Beach resident Carl St.

Clair.

Tickets for the concert are $10 general admission or $125 for VIP

tickets, which includes VIP seating and pre- and post-concert

receptions.

The Festival of Arts is at 650 Laguna Canyon Road. Audience

members are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs for picnics.

‘Catechism’ extended through Oct. 21

As a result of continued popular demand, the Laguna Playhouse will

extend its run of “Late Nite Catechism” through Oct. 21.

The two-act solo performance features “Sister” giving instruction

to a roomful of “students” (the audience).
