Eagles save best for last

The Estancia High girls tennis team remained undefeated in Golden

West League action, beating Westminster, 10-8, in a nail-biting

finish.

Down 4-8 heading into the final rotation, the Eagles need wins in

five of the six sets. Estancia (4-3 overall, 3-0) got wins in all six

to rally for the victory.

The Eagles travel to league-rival Saddleback Thursday.

Sailors handle Capo Valley

* Newport Harbor High girls tennis beat host Capistrano Valley,

15-3, Tuesday in a nonleague match. The Sailors (4-1) were paced by their doubles teams, who did not lose a match.

The No. 1 tandem of Brittany Edmonston and Brittanny Sturgess only

lost three games, as did the No. 2 team of Brittany Cluck and Sasha

Dunlap. Capistrano Valley (0-5) managed only one game against the No.

1 singles slot.

The Sailors host Laguna Beach today at 3 p.m.

Smooth win for Sea Kings

* Sophomore Miranda Young and freshman Allie Walters improved to

6-0 in doubles this season with a sweep Tuesday, helping the host

Corona del Mar High girls tennis team defeat Beverly Hills, 14-4, in

a nonleague match Tuesday.

Hayley Young and Jamie Steele won two sets before CdM Coach Bryan

Ricker substituted Kelly McKitterick and Stephanie Chen, who earned a

6-2 victory.

Jill Damion, Jillian Braverman and Rachael Miller each won two

sets in singles for the Sea Kings (4-1) while Rachel Bryan claimed

her singles set. Michelle Atkins and Roxanne Kaiden won one doubles

set.

Beverly Hills fell to 2-2.

Mesa edges Seahawks

* Evelyn Wallace and Jasmine Mathieson each claimed two singles

sets to pace the Costa Mesa High girls tennis team to a 10-8 Golden

West League victory over Ocean View Tuesday.

Mesa (3-3, 3-1 in league) won five sets in both doubles and

singles, with the No. 1 duo of Maria Garcia and Uyen Le securing the

victory with a 7-5 victory over Ocean View’s No. 3 team.

Leah Le and Hong-An Nguyen improved to 11-1 in league doubles play

with two more victories while Linh Hoang added a singles win for the

Mustangs.

Northwood doubles up Sage

* Sarah Geocaris and the doubles team of Sarah Flynn and Rachel

Heyler each won two sets, but it was not enough as the visiting Sage

Hill School girls tennis team fell to Northwood, 12-6, in a nonleague

match Tuesday.

Alle Hsu and Stephanie Langer each claimed one singles set for the

Lightning (2-3), who are still experimenting with doubles

combinations, Sage Coach A.G. Longoria said.

Northwood improved to 4-1.
