Sea Kings sail through Vikings

Seniors Shannon McMenomy and Lindsey Ensign each slammed six kills

while Breanne Ogden tallied 12 digs to lead the Corona del Mar High

girls volleyball team to a 25-13, 25-14, 25-15 nonleague victory over

visiting Marina Tuesday.

Sophomore Kasey Kipp collected two aces and four kills while

senior setter Traci Lawson tallied 19 assists and two service aces

for the Sea Kings (8-2). CdM senior Rylee Dennis added a block.

The Sea Kings face host Edison at 5:45 p.m. today in a rematch of

Monday night’s championship final of the Dave Mohs tournament. Edison

won in three games.

Lightning strike easy win

* Sage Hill School raced out to an easy, 25-10, 25-14, 25-10,

nonleague win at Fairmont Prep Tuesday.

Junior outside hitter Cat Daily finished with seven kills and five

aces to lead the Lightning (2-1). Sophomore Kelly Hutchenson, a

first-year varsity player, had five kills and five aces.

Haywood Wright, a 6-foot-1 junior middle blocker, had three kills

on only six sets and junior outside hitter Vista Murphy had three

kills. Murphy only played the first game and the games were over too

quickly for Wright to see many sets.

The Lightning are a young squad with only one senior, back-row

specialist Vicky Gutierrez, on the team.

Newport falls in 3 to Los Al

* Highly regarded Los Alamitos High scored a 25-12, 25-16, 25-15 nonleague victory over host Newport Harbor Tuesday.

Senior outside hitter Kiley Hall led the Sailors (3-5) with 19

kills while teammate Jamie Heenan added four along with three kills

from Coco Yokoyama.

Hall and Megan Toman each had two blocks while Yokoyama and Hall

each had six digs.

Harbor hosts Huntington Beach at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
