A red-hot offense coupled with a stingy defense proved to be the

right recipe for the Hot Shots, who scored an 8-0 victory over the

Hot Pink Panthers in an AYSO Region 55 girls’ under-10 game.

A trio of players took turns in the Hot Shots net, where Kirsti

Stangeland, Ariel Thelander and Ashley Yount combined for the

shutout.

Dana Conlisk and Danielle Kutinsky keyed the defense.

The Hot Shots scored twice in the opening two quarters. Their

first goal was scored by Courtney Meyer and it became 2-0 when a

ricocheted ball by the Panthers went into their own net.

Katie Gainous scored both second period goals for the Hot Shots.

It became 5-0 in the third when Yount netted her first goal of the

season. In the fourth period, Simone Corkett scored before Gainous

posted two more goals.

Under-12 Division

HB Highlighters 2, Shooting Stars 1

Second period goals by Shianne Phoenix and Spencer Wayne gave the

Highlighters a 2-0 lead and they held on for the tough win.

Neither team could crash the scoreboard in the first period,

though Highlighters keeper Sloan Turner had to defend seven

consecutive shots on goal.

Sierra Drysen protected the net for the Shooting Stars, whose only

score came on a fourth period goal by Andrea Pettett.

In other soccer action:

Xtreme 3, Tustin Premier 0

Gold Coast Xtreme, a local girls’ Under-12 club soccer team, won

its second match in three starts by shutting out Tustin Premier, 3-0.

Solid ball handling and passing keyed the offense in a complete

victory.

Sarah Wilkinson scored two goals, Devon Shinn scored once and

Jackie Freiberger played a strong game to pace the offense.

Paige Grigus’ outstanding play on defense helped preserve the

shutout, receiving support from Katherine Zeltner, Nicole Camarillo

and Christina Marquette.

The Xtreme had opened the season with a come-from-behind 3-2 win

over Eclipse of Laguna Hills, scoring all three of their goals in the

final 10 minutes of regulation.

Natalie Bergeron’s great second-effort goal got Xtreme on the

board and later, Shinn then launched a goal from outside over the

goalie to tie the score at 2-2. Sarah Wilkinson scored the winning

goal in the waning seconds for the win.

Halle Bissin’s defensive play in the second half helped get Xtreme

back in the match.

Xtreme’s lone loss in three matches was a 2-0 setback to Beach

Soccer Black.

Code Red wins two

California Futbol Club Code Red fired off two wins over the

weekend to move them into first place in the Bronze Central Girls’

under-13 club soccer division.

Spotting Bayern an early goal, Code Red fought back to take a 2-1

halftime lead on the strength of goals by Kirsten Marony and Osiris

Ceja. Erika Longoria assisted on Marony’s goal.

Tied at 2-2 in the second half, Rebecca Cruz put the winning goal

in off a pass from Marony to seal the victory.

In a Sunday match against Corona Del Mar Soccer Club, Code Red

again found itself behind 1-0 early, but battled back to score a 5-2

win. Longoria tied it up on a smooth pass from Rachel Pasternak, and

Marony put Code Red up, 2-1, when she scored off an Alison Hensley

assist to close out the half.

Alli Budd, Erica Cabibbo, Alyssa Strickland and Lauren Hanson

dominated the middle, while Jodi Hwang, Danica McGuire, George Demes

and Tiffany Van Tress provided the defensive power in the backfield

to hold off further first half scoring by Corona del Mar.

After the break, it was all Code Red. Osiris Ceja scored on a

corner kick and Alison Hensley answered a Corona del Mar goal with a

goal off a direct kick. Longoria put in the final goal when the ball

ricocheted off the goal post on a shot by Kirsten Marony.
