McDonald’s 39 sparks Sea Kings
Corona del Mar High improved to 4-0 this season with a 219-247
nonleague victory over visiting Aliso Niguel Wednesday on the par-35
Newport Beach Country Club.
CdM’s Caitlin McDonald earned medalist honors with a 39 followed
by teammates Michelle Albrecht (43), Katie McKitterick (44), Jonna
Kim (46), along with Maggie Nelson and Michelle Drucker, who both
shot 47.
Aliso fell to 2-3.
CdM opens Pacific Coast League play against University at
Strawberry Farms Golf Club in Irvine on Tuesday.
Draganza leads Sailors
* GOLF: Junior Natalie Draganza birdied the final two holes to
finish with a 4-over-par 40 to lead all players, helping the Newport
Harbor High girls golf team to a 229-245 nonleague victory over host
Edison at Mile Square Park in Fountain Valley Wednesday.
Ashley Jacobs (42), Kayleigh Horn (43), Kendall Horn (52) and Iko
Kagasoff (52) scored for Newport (2-1).
Mustangs tame Lions
* VOLLEYBALL: Senior outside hitter Lindsey Navarrette tallied 10
kills, three service aces and 10 digs to lead the Costa Mesa High
girls volleyball team to a 25-11, 25-8, 25-8 victory in the Golden
West League opener Wednesday.
Heather Williams added four kills while Jackie Havens tallied 20
assists for Mesa (2-1, 1-0 in league).
Connor paces Coast
* VOLLEYBALL: Orange Coast College freshman outside hitter
Samantha Connor posted a season-high 11 kills, along with three
blocks and three service aces, as the host Pirates swept Mt. San
Antonio, 30-25, 35-33, 30-22, in a nonconference women’s volleyball
match Wednesday.
Donka Drozd also had 11 kills, two blocks and two aces for the
Pirates (4-0) while freshman setter Caitlin Parker added five aces,
including two in each of the last two games.
Orange Coast travels to Ventura at 5 p.m. Friday.
Lions win sixth straight
* VOLLEYBALL: Vanguard University’s women’s volleyball team won
its sixth straight match Tuesday night with a sweep over the Master’s
College in Golden State Athletic Conference play. The visiting Lions
improved to 17-4, 4-1 in GSAC.
Sage Hill erupts, wins
* WATER POLO: Julian Tooma scored four goals while teammates John
Neff and Jordan Cline each added three scores to lead the Sage Hill
School boys water polo team to a 15-4 nonleague victory over visiting
Bolsa Grande at Corona del Mar High Wednesday.
Chris Mazzo (two), Chase Caillouette (one), Beau Caillouette (one)
and Perry Pang (one) all added to Sage’s scoring.
Trevor Granger made six saves while Danny Harold stopped five
shots for the Lightning (4-2).

Sailors fall to Laguna
* TENNIS: Visiting Laguna Beach High claimed seven of nine doubles
sets, two in tiebreakers, and prevailed against Newport Harbor, 13-5,
in a nonleague girls tennis match Wednesday.
Sophomore Chrissy Schwartz claimed two singles sets for Newport
(4-2) while teammate Stephanie Chen earned one victory playing
singles for the first time.
Newport Coach Fletcher Olson said the two tiebreaker losses in
doubles would have made it 3-3 at the end of the first and second
rounds instead of the 4-2 counts.
The Breakers improved to 5-1.

Edison sweeps CdM
* VOLLEYBALL: On the heels of their Dave Mohs tournament
championship-match victory over Corona del Mar High on Monday night,
the host Edison Chargers swept the Sea Kings, 25-21, 25-15, 25-20, in
nonleague girls volleyball action Wednesday.
Jordan Smith (17 digs and seven kills) led Corona del Mar (8-3)
while Lindsey Ensign contributed seven digs and six kills. Traci
Lawson (16 assists) and Breanna Odgen (six digs) also sparked the Sea
Kings.
Edison improved to 10-1.
The Sea Kings host Santa Margarita at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Breakers muffle Mesa
* WATER POLO: Host Laguna Beach High jumped to a 7-1 lead and made
it stand up in a 12-7 boys water polo nonleague victory over Costa
Mesa Wednesday.
Adam Douglas scored three goals while Evan Spencer added two for
the Mustangs (5-2, 1-0 in the Golden West League). Sergio Hernandez
and Chris Medina each added one goal while goalkeeper Matt
Jaroslawski made 14 saves for Mesa.
