OLIVE AFFAIR

Oliviers & Co., from Provence, offers an extensive assortment of

extra virgin olive oils from France, Italy, Spain, Greece and

Lebanon. It also offers Mediterranean specialty foods, such as

vinegars, herbs, spices, pastas and jams. Oliviers & Co.’s first

Orange County location just opened at Fashion Island. It’s located

near Macy’s. Customers can visit the tasting table, where the staff

can guide them through Oliviers & Co. products. They can also share

recipes and cooking tips.

Oliviers & Co.’s boutique offers tastes from the Mediterranean,

and it evokes the area’s inherent colors and textures. Designed in

simple wood and wrought-iron, it is reminiscent of the region’s

landscape, the rugged olive trees and iron olive presses found in

every village. Open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Friday; 11 a.m. to 7

p.m. Saturday; 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Fashion Island in Newport

BUTTERING THEM UP

In 1976, Olivier Baussan founded L’Occitane, a company focused on

the well-being of women and men by offering personal care products

and home fragrances made from natural ingredients. L’Occitane

captures the scents, colors and beauty of Provence.

L’Occitane supports local producers from the Mediterranean region

who respect the environment. They harvest ingredients that include

lavender, honey, neroli flowers and organic verbena.

L’Occitane is also known for its luxurious shea butter products

that help moisturize skin. L’Occitane formed a humanitarian

partnership with women of Burkina Faso in West Africa who harvest

shea fruit. The women of the village co-produce L’Occitane’s Shea

Butter Collection.

The precious shea tree is considered sacred; only fruits fallen on

the ground can be collected. Women have a secret way of extracting

the nut from the fruits and then grinding them into a paste. Even

their babies benefit from shea butter. Almost from birth, mothers

massage and soothe their babies with shea butter, helping form the

bond between mothers and children.

L’Occitane aids the visually impaired with Braille printing on the

packaging. Products come in simple packages, ideal for recycling;

most come in metal tubes and brown, corrugated paper products. Open

10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Friday; 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday; 11

a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Fashion Island in Newport Beach. (949)
