Laguna Beach high’s football team will look to win its third

consecutive game of the year when it travels to Newport Harbor High

Saturday to take on host Costa Mesa.

Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Davidson Field.

The game is Laguna’s first road test of the season.

Laguna (2-1) has won two straight since dropping its season opener

Sept. 3 to Palos Verdes. In the past two weeks, the Breakers weren’t

challenged by La Quinta or Ocean View, which fell by scores of 38-12

and 48-13, respectively.

In last week’s 35-point win over visiting Ocean View, Laguna led

28-0 after one quarter and 42-0 at the half.

Five players got into the scoring act, including Garrett Preston,

who scored on a fumble recovery in the end zone.

Quarterback Talan Torriero and Tommy Cogburn each scored twice.

Torriero rushed for a pair of scores and scored a two-point

conversion when he caught his own deflected pass off an Ocean View

defender.

Cogburn had two big scores, the first coming on a 34-yard run, the

second, when he and Torriero teamed on a 96-yard touchdown pass which

capped Laguna’s scoring.

Running back Greg Arellano rushed for one score and Bryan Brown

hauled in a 22-yard scoring pass from Torriero.

In three games, Laguna’s defense has yielded an average of 10

points.

The Breakers will be taking on an 0-3 Costa Mesa team that was

defeated last week by Huntington Beach, 42-28.

In that game, the Mustangs defense gave up five rushing touchdowns

and a 70-yard punt return for another score.

Costa Mesa is giving up an average of 32 points per game.

Laguna’s offense comes into Saturday’s contest averaging 31 points

per game.
