‘World’s Fair’ goes Vegas style Saturday

AIDS Services Foundation is having its annual fall fundraiser

“World’s Fair” event with this year’s Las Vegas style theme “Lost

Vegas.”

The event is an evening completely redesigned for the occasion,

with a spoof musical and Vegas style entertainment and gaming.

The event Saturday is at the Festival of Arts grounds, 650 Laguna

Canyon Road, and starts at 6:30 p.m. General admission tickets are

College faculty exhibit set

Peter Blake Gallery is hosting Laguna College of Art and Designs’

Faculty Exhibit 2004. The public is invited to meet the artists at a

reception from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday.

The exhibition features new work by painters, sculptors, graphic

and multi-media designers, illustrators and film animators, all

professionals who bring individual records of recognition and success

to their positions as artist-teachers.

Community can contribute materials

The Laguna Beach Arts Commission selected a mural design, by

Laguna artist Gerard Basil Stripling, for installation at the Lang

Park Community Center.

The five mosaic murals, titled “Mementos,” will be installed at

the outdoor courtyard. Residents are invited to install the artwork

in addition to contributing small memento items that may be included

within the murals. Donated items may or may not be selected by the

artist for inclusion in the project.

The community is invited to donate items through Sept. 29. Items

must be appropriate in subject matter, be durable and be no larger

than 12 inches long and 2 inches thick. Items may be delivered 9 a.m.

to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday to the Recreation and Cultural Arts

Department, 515 Forest Ave.

The mural installation will be held on Nov. 6, 7, 12, 13 and 14,

Gallimaufry, dance festival merge

Two Laguna Beach based art organizations have merged -- California

Choreographers Dance Festival and Gallimaufry Performing Arts.

The twice-yearly dance event, Dance Day, is on Oct. 2. Dance Day

offers an array of dance performances and free master classes taught

by accomplished choreographers.

Following the classes, Gallimaufry Performing Arts will host a

free afternoon dance concert at 3:15 p.m. at the cobblestones on Main

Beach, with performances by various California companies.

Gallimaufry will hold fundraiser

In addition to Dance Day, Gallimaufry is “Dancing in the Sand -- A

Tropical Evening in Emerald Bay.” The fundraiser will be held in the

private gated community of Emerald Bay from 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 2.

The evening will include dinner and dancing on the beach with

performances by dancers from the New York City Ballet, comedy and

music by Roxanna Ward and musical theater performances by local

performers David Stoneman, Pat Warren and executive artistic

director, Steve Josephson.

LAM to donate to library collection

Laguna Art Museum’s librarian Carole Reynolds will present a

collection of the museum’s produced catalogs to Marianna Hof, head

librarian of the Laguna Beach Public Library, and to Peggy Cherry,

head librarian at the College of Art and Design, at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 4

at the library, 363 Glenneyre St.

Beginning with this donation, the museum will regularly provide

both libraries copies of museum-produced catalogs.
