Police say crash injures three people

An early-morning, alcohol-related crash in Costa Mesa Tuesday left

three people injured, one critically, police said.

Tuan Nguyen, a 24-year-old Westminster resident suffered major

head trauma after he was ejected from a Nissan pickup truck during a

crash just after 2 a.m. at the corner of Harbor Boulevard and Ford

Road, Costa Mesa Police said.

The driver, 21-year-old Santa Ana resident Oscar Tinoco was

treated at Hoag Hospital for a large cut on his left arm, according

to police. Tinoco was later released and then booked into Costa Mesa

City Jail on suspicion of felony DUI, Costa Mesa Police Sgt. Marty

Carver said. Tinoco is being held on $100,000 bail.

Tinoco was headed north on Harbor Boulevard at about 40 miles per

hour when he lost control and hit a light pole, Carver said. Nguyen

was ejected from the passenger-side window and was transported to

Western Medical Center, police said.

A second passenger, 22-year-old Jose Carrion of Santa Ana,

complained of head pain but was not treated.

Man dies after car struck on freeway

A Costa Mesa man died Sunday morning after a crash on the Santa

Ana Freeway.

Chris Bartav, 32, died after a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado struck his

stopped 1994 Honda on the shoulder of the southbound side of the

freeway, just south of Main Street at about 3 a.m. Sunday, police and

California Highway Patrol officials said. Barta died at the scene.

Jose Garciav, a 30-year-old Orange resident, was injured and

transported to Western Medical Center. The accident is under

investigation.
