Costa Mesa resident Rich Kidder and partner Kyle Llewellyn of

Huntington Beach shot an 8-under-par 135 to claim the 17th Southern

California Golf Association affiliate team championship at the

Bajamar Oceanfront Golf Resort in Ensenada, Baja California.

Kidder, 52, a packaging broker, and Llewellyn, teaming up for the

first time, won the title by three strokes over San Pedro residents

Grant Beachley and Mike McLachlan in the two-round championship, the

SCGA’s first on foreign soil.

Kidder and Llewellyn shot a 9-under 69 -- playing a four-ball

format -- on the Vista/Oceano course to take a three-stroke lead

after the opening round before tallying a 1-over 72 on the Oceano/Lagos course in the final round.

Costa Mesa resident Steve Metro and partner Glen Shepard of Orange

(82-71 -- 153) finished tied for 13th.

* Ryan Evans carded a hole-in-one on the par-3 eighth hole on the

Mesa Linda course at Costa Mesa Golf & Country Club Sept. 17.

* Newport Beach’s Pete Daley shot a 6-over 77 and is tied for 21st

with eight other golfers after the first round of the 27th Southern

California Senior Amateur Championship at Wilshire Country Club in

Los Angeles.

Daley, a Mesa Verde Country Club member, carded two birdies -- one

on the 142-yard par-3 seventh and the other on the 555-yard, par-5

16th.

Steve Bogan of Placentia shot a 3-under 68 and leads the 36-hole

tournament by three strokes over Steve Yavorsky of Capistrano Beach

and Paul Kay of Encino.

The final round is today.
