Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y., awarded Garrett

Lyndon Prechel of Costa Mesa its Rensselaer Medal as Corona del Mar

High School’s “most promising science and math student.” If Prechel,

a senior, chooses to enroll at the university, he’ll receive a

four-year, $60,000 scholarship ... The Orange Coast College community

relations office won five Medallion Awards Sept. 17 at a regional conference hosted by the National Council for Marketing and Public

Relations. Community Relations Director Jim Carnett won a gold award

for feature writing, and graphic designers Signe Johnson and Chauncey

Bayes placed first in poster design. A second-place award was given

to OCC for its “Coaster” newsletter, designed by Johnson and edited

by Carnett. The college’s weekly online staff newsletter, “Coast to

Coast,” won a third-place award, and Carnett won a third-place award

for feature writing ... Volunteer Center Orange County has appointed

UC Irvine graduate Rob Myers to its board. Myers is currently Senior

Vice President of Wells Fargo Orange County, where he oversees 200

team members and $1.3 billion in deposits. Volunteer Center Orange

County connected 41,000 people to volunteer opportunities last year.
