Favorite golf moment: Teeing off in at the CIF individual

championships his freshman year at Newport Harbor High in front of

fans, coaches and players at Redhawk Golf Club in Temecula. Hanold

hit his tee shot on a par-3 over water to five feet of the hole and

made the subsequent birdie putt.

Favorite club to use: 52-degree gap wedge

Favorite course to play: Plantation Course at the Kapalua Resort

on Maui

Family: Parents, George and Kathleen; sister, Regan

Noteworthy: Hanold, a Costa Mesa resident, used a pitching wedge,

not a 6-iron as had been incorrectly reported, to record his first

hole-in-one. He aced the par-3 sixth hole on the Mesa Linda course at

Costa Mesa Golf & Country Club Aug. 12. Learned the game from his

grandmother, Katherine Heatherly, when he was 6. Said the best tips

she gave him were to keep his eye on the ball and his head still. He

played four years on Newport Harbor’s boys varsity golf team. Father

and him started a real estate investment company. Plays once a week.
