Resident arrested after shots reported

Police are investigating a shooting that was reported in the Oak

View neighborhood.

At 5:15 p.m. on Sept. 23, police responded to a call that a man

fired two or three shotgun blasts in the 17300 block of Jacquelyn

Lane, Huntington Beach Police Sgt. Dave Bunetta said. The shooter ran

away and initially escaped police, though police arrested a

21-year-old Huntington Beach resident on suspicion of the crime about

five hours later. Police would not disclose the alleged shooter’s

name or any extensive details about the case, citing safety worries.

“For the protection of some people that were involved in this,

including the victim, we’re not going to release anything yet,”

Bunetta said.

No one was injured in the attack, including a 25-year-old man who

told police he was the shooter’s target, Bunetta said. Police did not

disclose where the alleged victim lives.

The shooting is still under investigation and no charges have yet

been filed, Bunetta said.

Brothers assaulted at the beach

Two brothers were attacked without provocation while at the beach

with their parents on Saturday, police said.

At about 10 p.m. Saturday, Ramon Hernandez, 18, of Garden Grove

and his 14-year-old brother were collecting recyclable cans at an

access road near the Huntington Beach Pier when they were confronted

by two teenagers, Sgt. Dave Bunetta said. The teenagers reportedly

asked the brothers where they lived and possibly whether they had any

gang ties.

“All of a sudden, for no apparent reason, they were attacked,”

Bunetta said. Police have no evidence indicating the victims were

gang members.

The younger brother was more seriously hurt in the fight, police

said. He suffered superficial wounds inflicted with a screwdriver and

a possible broken nose. He was treated and released at Hoag Hospital,

and his brother suffered minor injuries.

The brothers were out of sight from their parents when the fight

started, and the attackers ran away after the parents heard the fight

and ran to their children, Bunetta said. The attackers are still on

the loose, and police have not concluded whether they were gang

members.

The attackers are both described as 16- or 17-year-old boys with

shaved heads. One wore a white T-shirt and the other wore a blue

T-shirt and jeans.

Police program volunteers sought

The Police Department is accepting applications for the Reserve

Senior Volunteer Program. Seniors must be at least 55-years-old to

join the program and live in Huntington Beach. Senior volunteers help

police out by checking homes while residents are on vacation and

writing parking tickets, as well as a variety of other activities

such as helping out at community events.

Seniors may call (714) 536-5933 to request an application.

Training sessions are scheduled to begin in March.
