Sandpiper, Used Cars play for Tuesday title
Sandpiper and Used Cars both turned in victories at Riddle Field to
advance to the championship final of the Tuesday League postseason
playoffs in city of Laguna Beach Community Services Dept. Summer 16”
Slow Pitch Softball action.
Sandpiper 11, Team Viagra 4 Sandpiper slugged out nine home runs and ended Team Viagra’s
six-game win streak in the process.
Ryan Neptune ripped three of those homers and Chris Howell, Jeff
Heminghaus, Teo Moore, David Sommerfield, Mickey Allen and Brett
Nelson each had one.
Cam Hamil had a leadoff double and scored on Nate Pivaroff’s home
run to give Team Viagra a 2-0 first inning lead.
Sandpiper went ahead by scoring three runs in the second inning,
but Tom Pierce’s solo homer in the third brought Team Viagra into a
3-3 tie.
Sandpiper took the lead for good in the bottom-half of the third
by scoring three more runs.
Used Cars 10, Team Viagra 7
Used Cars built a 5-0 lead after two innings and held on to
eliminate Team Viagra in a losers’ bracket game.
Despite being down five runs, Team Viagra rallied back to tie the
game in the fifth, 5-5.
Used Cars scored twice in the sixth and three more times in the
seventh to decide the game.
Used Cars leadoff batter Pat Toohey had a home run and three
singles in a four for four game, Aiden Cunniningham homered, doubled
and singled, Mike McKenzie homered twice and singled and Micah
Stovall had three singles.
Keith Mulvaney hit two home runs and Nate Pivaroff added a home
run and single for Team Viagra.
In Wednesday League playoff action:
Mesa Verde Partners 16, Arborists 1
Defending champion Mesa Verde’s sixth straight win sent up a title
date with Sports World.
Dave Meggison delivered three home runs and walked in, driving in
six runs, Jeff Pich belted out three homers in three plate
appearances, Jeff Greenough homered twice and Ryan Neptune and Jeff
Pich each homered once to power Mesa Verde’s offense.
Meggison surrendered just four singles to the Arborists.
Arborists 10, Island Shade 8
Marco Johnson knocked in four runs with a pair of homers and A.J.
Voto went four for four with a home run as the Arborists eliminated
Island Shade from the playoffs.
Coby Naess and Tom Taylor each homered twice and J.P. McManus had
a three-run homer and singled for Island Shade.
In Thursday League regular season action:
Chico’s Bail Bonds 9, Rotary 8
By holding off playoff-bound Rotary, Chico’s Bail Bonds was able
to earn an outright regular season championship.
Teo Moore homered twice and singled, Cam Driscoll hit a pair of
homers and Mike McKenzie homered and singled twice to lead Chico’s
Bail Bonds.
Rotary’s Mark Maurer hit a three-run homer in the third inning and
Bob Jameson singled twice.
Arbitech 10, South Laguna Hamstrings 8
Arbitech scored six times in its final at-bat to win its third
straight game.
Despite the win, Arbitech missed making the postseason playoffs by
four percentage points.
Arbitech leadoff batter Matt Kent hit a solo home run and singled.
Alex Carter homered and singled for the Hamstrings.
C-Dawgs 5, Compound Fractures 1
Frank Ranieri drove in four runs with two home runs and a single
to account for half of the C-Dawgs hits.
Jimmy Quintana doubled and singled for the Compound Fractures.
