Dana Hills edges Tars
Joey Head, Steve Farmer, Reagan Riley and Daniel Shea each won their
respective short board heats, but it was not enough as the Newport
Harbor High surf team lost to host Dana Hills, 88-80, in a South
Coast League meet Thursday at Salt Creek Beach in Dana Point.
The boys short board squad was the only Sailor team to earn a
victory, winning all four heats in a 47-37 triumph.
Shea tallied the high-wave score with a 6.7 average while Charley
Buckingham and Colin McElroy each placed second in the short board
competition for Newport (1-1).
Newport senior Erica Hosseini, who begins competition in the Hello
Kitty Boardfest today off the Huntington Beach Pier, won the girls
short board with a 5.6 average, but the Dolphins edged the Sailors,
11-10.
Newport’s boys body board and long board teams each lost, 13-8.
Matt Kretschmar and Christopher LoMenzo each finished third to
lead the Sailors in the body board and long board divisions,
respectively.
Lisa Turk led the Sailor girls long board team with a third-place
finish, but Dana Hills prevailed, 13-8.
Newport hosts San Clemente at 56th Street in Newport Beach at 6:15
