A tireless neighbor in Newport Terrace

The Daily Pilot may have missed a number in the 103 Newport-Mesa’s

most influential for 2004 published Wednesday. Newport Terrace’s Val

Skoro has distinguished himself as a tireless community volunteer.

He has served almost eight years on Newport Beach’s Parks,

Beaches, and Recreation Commission including chairman twice. He is

also chair of the city of Newport Beach’s Parks Development committee

for Sunset Ridge, Newport Village and Upper Bay View. He is

continuing to serve tirelessly on the Corona del Mar Business

Improvement District and Corona del Mar Homeowner’s Assn. Val has

never been called sick, lame or lazy in his service to the community.

Next time, please pick a good number for Val Skoro.

Church was there first, so dismiss the lawsuit

Regarding the question in the Pilot as to whether a judge should

dismiss an Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles lawsuit over St. James

Church’s split from the diocese, yes, I believe it should, promptly.

The evidence shows that the St. James Church corporation was

established in about 1949, when the property at 3209 Via Lido was

bequeathed to the corporation and restricted to use by St. James

Church. This supercedes by 40 years the Episcopal Church bylaws

proffered by the Diocese of Los Angeles in their attempt to usurp St.

James’ property.

A blasphemous choice on the influential people list

I am sitting here looking at your 103 wonderful people from Orange

County, and mostly you have picked some goodies. However, I am

absolutely appalled that you put Pastor Praveen Bunyan, the usurper

of St. James Church, who has been in town for only a year or so, as

No. 5 among all these great people who have been in Newport Beach for

quite a while and work very hard to make our lives better. Shame on

you. Shame, shame.
