CdM, Sage Hill duel

The Corona del Mar High boys cross country team placed first in
Division III, while Sage Hill School’s Mike Voge broke a school
record at the Orange County championships Saturday at Irvine Regional
Park.
The Sea Kings’ runners placed fourth, sixth, ninth, 15th, 18th,
51st and 66th for a low of 52 points. Second-place Woodbridge had 82
points.
“It was a small school race, therefore we were practicing some
other things,” CdM Coach Bill Sumner said. “But I told [my runners]
that if they come out too patient, there’s a point of diminishing
return. So I told them to practice going out harder.”
Jack Turner was the first finisher for the Sea Kings in fourth
place with a time of 15:58. Ryan Guthrie (16:04), Kenneth Wong
(16:16), Tom Hutchison (16:35) and Tim Scott (16:44) were the rest of
the top-five finishers.
Sage’s Voge placed 21st overall in the same race, posting a time
of 16:45 -- a school record for the Lightning on a three-mile course.
The Lightning came in 10th in the team category, with Tim Lefler
(43rd, 17:19), Connor Rose (46th, 17:21), Zach Chandy (64th, 17:48)
and David Packard (83rd, 18:31) bringing in the top five.
