Rubio’s founder to take taco-grilling to the beach

Rubio’s Fresh Mexican Grill founder Ralph Rubio will grill tacos

on the beach and talk about how he used advertising to expand his

business at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort.

Professionals from advertising, graphic design and related

industries are invited to the event, which is sponsored by the Orange

County Ad Club. Tickets are $30 for ad club members and $35 for

Variety of business issues to be addressed at seminar

A free business seminar on key financial issues facing

manufacturers will be held at 7:15 a.m. Thursday at the Holiday Inn,

3131 Bristol St., Costa Mesa.

Topics to be discussed include how to spot glitches in processing

a loan from the U.S. Small Business Administration and how to reduce

liability in handling employee retirement plans.

The seminar is sponsored by Southern California Edison as well as

the Costa Mesa Chamber of Commerce, Smith Barney and Vanguard

Worldly council elects new man to its board

Howard Roop of Costa Mesa has been elected to the board of

directors of the World Affairs Council of Orange County. As vice

chairman of education outreach, Roop will promote membership in the

council and attendance at its events among students, teachers and

professors.

The nonpartisan council’s goal is to introduce local residents to

international leaders who offer provocative views on world affairs.

The Irvine-based group holds regular meetings and seminars, and

speakers this year have included Mikhail Gorbachev and U.S.

Ambassador to Spain George Argyros.
