A quick start Saturday set the tone for the Laguna Beach Soccer Club

boys’ under-11 team, which went on to roll past the Orange Coast

United Vipers, 8-1, in a Coast Soccer League match at Estancia High.

Laguna got off to a great start when minutes into the game,

midfielder Paolo Noppenberger received a corner kick at the 18-yard

line and blasted a shot that bounced off the Orange Coast top post

and into the net.

Later in the first half, Laguna forward Austin Paxson beat the

Vipers keeper and placed a volley from a well-placed pass from

Christian Ochoa, into the opposite corner of the net for a 2-0 lead.

A few minutes later, Ochoa, who took in a cross from Logan Warren,

drilled a shot into the back of the net to give Laguna a 3-0 halftime

advantage.

As it did in the match’s opening minutes, Laguna took charge at

the outset of the second half.

Paxson sent an 18-yard shot beyond the outstretched arms of the

Vipers keeper to make it 4-0. But the Vipers responded with a goal

from forward Edson Pedroza, who was able to thread his way through

the Laguna defense to score.

But Laguna put the match out of reach by answering the score with

four goals in quick succession.

A determined midfielder, Brian Vail, scored back-to-back goals,

and was followed by defender Ethan Cochran’s first goal of the

season.

Cochran came up with a solid run through several viper defenders

to score.

Noppenberger concluded the scoring with his second goal of the

day, which came in the closing minutes of play.

Also contributing to the Laguna effort was the play of Luke Barker

in goal, midfielders Derek Marolf, Zack Lebon, Thomas Munayyer and

the defensive team of Logan Warren and Mathew Lunn.

Forwards Michael Kimball and Jimmy Kang also led a strong charge.
