1. I’m not certain that I agree that there are issues facing the
district. We are financially sound and construction is over. I
believe that what faces us is the challenge of how we move from good
to great. We consistently are one of the top districts in the county
and the state academically. Our challenge is to move up to the next
level.
2. The current board is well balanced with three educators, an
attorney and a business person. My background is business, with a
master’s degree, which has been useful these past four years relative
to our financial reserves, construction of the new school facilities
and labor relations.
There is more to be done both financially as well as academically,
and I would like to follow through with that commitment.
3. There are a wide variety of programs that are in place. What’s
more important is the environment of learning that exists at the four
school sites. Our teachers and administrators are committed to bell
learning as opposed to teaching, and there is a difference.
We are implementing a new ongoing program that will make a
significant step in reaching the next level of student achievement.
An Individual Student Program for all students will focus on all
aspects of learning, including recognizing the importance of the
emotional and social well being component of learning.
4. As we all know, hindsight is always 20/20. Community input has
always been a priority as exhibited by the recent success of the
construction projects. Communications can always be improved. You
think you’re doing the right thing by holding public hearings and
sending notices. It is important, however, to have been more
specific.
