Water awards given for top-notch education

The Orange County Water District and Orange County Sanitation

District’s Groundwater Replenishment System’s communications team

earned the 2004 Public Education “Program of the Year.”

The WateReuse Assn., a nonprofit organization that works to find

new sources of quality water through reuse, awarded the title for the

team’s public outreach and education efforts.

The replenishment system cleans highly treated sewer water through

the same processes used to purify baby food and juice. Untreated

water would be drained to the ocean, but now it’s possible to reuse

the water to bolster groundwater supplies. This will also help to

curb ocean pollution and to decrease the possibilities of a severe

drought.

Mesa Consolidated Water District has announced Bill Johnson will

take over the position of water-operations manager. Johnson will

manage the operations and activities of the Water Operations

Department, including the maintenance, operation and repair of the

district’s water supply and distribution facilities.

Before Johnson’s appointment, he was the water production

supervisor.
