Veteran water district manager retires

After 32 years of experience in the water industry, Jerry Baldwin

has retired as water operations manager for Mesa Consolidated Water

District. His last day of work at Mesa was Oct. 8.

Baldwin was involved in implementing Mesa’s vulnerability

assessment study, working closely with local law enforcement

officials and with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to ensure

Mesa’s continued safe and reliable water supply.

Baldwin, a member of the American Water Works Assn. and the Orange

County Water Assn., has several certifications through the Department

of Health Services and associate of arts degrees in water utility

science, government management, and business and industry management.

Baldwin plans to spend more time with his family and on his

hobbies, which include water sports and classic cars.

New demonstration garden is growing

Mesa Consolidated Water District officials have announced the

completion of the district’s demonstration garden.

The demonstration garden provides a way to check out a wide

variety of plants that are water efficient and attractive. The new

garden features a drip irrigation system and has markers to identify

the plants that are categorized as California native, Southwest or

Mediterranean.

The demonstration garden is an excellent resource for customers

who are interested in conserving water and saving money.

Mesa received a grant from the Metropolitan Water District of

Southern California earlier this year for the development of the

garden. The grant application was endorsed by the Municipal Water

District of Orange County.
