Police should fight crime, not kids

Recently I got a ticket for riding my skateboard without a helmet.

The cop who gave me the ticket was sitting right behind the bus stop

at school busting kids left and right for not wearing helmets on

their skateboards. This same cop gave out seven tickets to innocent

children just riding to school to get an education.

This is insane. Every one of those kids, including myself, was

totally unaware of the law. I think that the Huntington Beach Police

force is power-hungry by hiding and ticketing kids just trying to get

to school, causing no trouble at all and trying to get an education.

Police should go out there and fight crime, not give innocent kids

tickets for something they are not aware of.

Council experience is Winchell’s drawback

I suppose Grace Winchell is a reasonable choice to replace Pam

Julien Houchen, her poorest recommendation being that she is a former

council member. The council ought to clarify their self governance

rules so this can’t happen again. They seem to be able to make laws

for everyone else.

Though I seldom agree with Councilwoman Debbie Cook, I think she’s

right that Councilman Dave Sullivan is playing games. Sullivan should

be up front and state why he favors this peculiar installment timing.

But I have come to expect nothing better from the Huntington Beach

City Council. They have a long history of shameful behavior,

sometimes as individuals and sometimes corporately. The saddest thing

is these self-serving amateur politicians have the power to bind the

rest of us with their parochial interests.
