Fair market makes sweet day

The seventh annual trick-or-treat festival happens from 10 a.m. to 2

p.m. Sunday at The Orange County Market Place. Kids in costumes can

trick-or-treat during the day. Included in the festivities are

championship pumpkin pie-eating contests, a sword swallower and

ventriloquist David Markham, the Miracle Man. Other events include

radio personality Dr. Demento hosting two shows, and there will be an

antique hearse and classic car procession through Costa Mesa

beginning at 10 a.m. “Farmer” Mike Vallado returns this year to carve

amazing 3-D masterpieces out of 400-pound pumpkins. The fifth annual

Hearse, Bug and Monster Classic Car Show will be held in conjunction

with the festival, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission to the market

place and weekend swap meet at the Costa Mesa Fairgrounds is $2 for

ages 13 and over and free for children 12 and under. Halloween events

IT’S A HUGE COSTUME WORLD

The selection of Halloween costumes at the Disney Store is

unbelievable, and many are on sale. The assortment includes

accessories like shoes, crowns, wands, wigs, hats and boas. Girls

favor the “princess costumes” including Belle, Cinderella and

Sleeping Beauty; boys want Toy Story characters including Buzz and

Woody, as well as Power Rangers. Prices are reasonable. Other

FUNDRAISING IN THE CARDS

South Coast Plaza will offer an “Angelitos Card,” a shopping card

that helps raise funds for Angelitos de Oro, a nonprofit organization

dedicated to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County. Purchase an

Angelitos Card for $50 and receive a 20% discount at more than 100

participating South Coast Plaza retailers from Nov. 4 to 9. All

proceeds from the card sales benefit Big Brother Big Sisters of

TREATS APLENTY AT PLAZA

Children can trick-or-treat at South Coast Plaza on Sunday from

3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Participating retailers and Carousel Court will

have treats for children dressed in costumes.

TWO-DAY SKI SWAP

This weekend finds deals on high-quality new and used ski and

snowboard equipment and apparel. Stefan Kaelin Ski and Golf will hold

the annual Ski and Snowboard Swap and Sale on Saturday and Sunday

from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 2700 W. Coast Highway in Newport Beach.

A 3-HOUR BOUTIQUE TOUR

Marie’s boutique at Newport Coast Shopping Center will host an

evening of fashion tonight from 7 to 10 p.m. Marie presents the new

fall/winter collection from James Coviello of New York, as well as

Pinko, an exclusive European line. Shoppers can enjoy a cutting-edge

fashion show, with a DJ spinning vinyl, along with refreshments, an
