‘Eaters’ Wing lauded
UC Irvine senior outside hitter Kelly Wing has been named Big West
Conference Player of the Week in women’s volleyball for the second
time this season.
Wing, an All-American as a junior, led the Anteaters to a comeback
victory against Cal State Northridge Oct. 23. She collected 34 kills,
including three game-winners. She also had three aces.
After the Anteaters battled back from an 11-3 deficit in Game 5 to
tie the score at 13, Wing had three straight kills for a 16-14 win.
Over two matches, including a loss to University of the Pacific
Oct. 22, Wing averaged 6.6 kills per game and 2.6 digs.
Wing has received this honor seven times in her career, a total
matched by only two other players in conference annals.
