UCI opens exhibition season
The UC Irvine men’s basketball team plays host to Simon Fraser, an
NAIA school from British Columbia, Canada, in an exhibition game
tonight at 7:05 at the Bren Events Center.
Coach Pat Douglass’ Anteaters are coming off an 11-17 season in
which they failed to make the Big West Conference tournament.
UCI’s tentative starters include returners Jeff Gloger and Ross
Schraeder, both junior guards, as well as 6-foot-8 senior post Greg
Ethington.
Gloger, who shifts from point to a wing, averaged 9.1 points and
6.3 rebounds last season.
Schrader averaged 7.9 points, while Ethington averaged 6.5 points
and 3.2 rebounds.
Junior point guard Aaron Fitzgerald and 6-10 junior Adam Metelski,
both community college transfers, are expected to round out the
lineup for UCI.
Simon Fraser was 2-7 heading into Friday’s exhibition game at
UCLA.
