Normal trash pickup times on Veterans Day

Newport Beach refuse collection crews will work on Veterans Day,

Thursday, and there will be no change in the refuse collection

schedule.

However, there will be no street sweeping in the city on Thursday.

Costa Mesa park tour scheduled for Nov. 20

A free guided tour of Fairview Park in Costa Mesa has been

scheduled for Nov. 20.

The fall tour will be hosted by the city’s Friends of Fairview

Park Committee.

The hike will begin at 9 a.m. at the picnic shelter, west of

Placentia Avenue.

The tour will showcase the cultural history of the ancient Tongva

Tribe -- the past dwellers of the region -- the natural flora and

fauna of the region and upcoming park projects.

Hikers will learn about the park’s history as well as the City

Council-adopted master plan. The master plan includes removing

nonnative plant forms and planting native plants.
