Nails, screws found in park playground
A parent found nails and screws strewn around the play area of a
Costa Mesa park Saturday morning, police officials said.
The incident was reported at Wakeham Park in the 2400 block of
Smalley Road at about 11 a.m., said Costa Mesa Police Lt. John
FitzPatrick.
Officers who responded to the call found three nails and five
screws in the play area of the park, he said.
“But they were not placed in a dangerous way,” FitzPatrick said.
No one was reported to be hurt, he said.
Police combed the play area with metal detectors, but didn’t find
anything else, FitzPatrick said.
