Man arrested after
short police pursuit
Costa Mesa Police arrested a Santa Ana man on suspicion of drunken
driving Monday afternoon after a hit-and-run accident.
Joel Granados Blas, 33, was arrested at 12:45 p.m. Monday after a
short pursuit, Costa Mesa Police Lt. Dale Birney said. He is being
held on $100,000 bail on felony DUI and hit-and-run charges, Birney
said.
Blas’ Toyota, which he was driving south on Mesa Verde Drive West,
ran a red light at 12:12 p.m. and broadsided a van driving west on
Adams Avenue, Birney said. The van hit a sign at a bus stop and then
hit a brick wall, he said.
The van’s driver, who was not identified, suffered minor injuries.
The Toyota left the scene of the accident and was spotted by an
officer at the corner of Harbor Boulevard and Adams Avenue, Birney
said. Blas led the officer on a short pursuit but pulled over at the
corner of Baker Street and McClintock Avenue, Birney said.
